König is a modern chain of restaurants from Girona, which opened its first establishment in 1973. Despite being a chain, König designs every restaurant to be unique in terms of decoration and culinary offerings, which can vary from one establishment to another.
The experience acquired during all these years can be felt and seen in its large menu of dishes and sandwiches, all of them elaborate with the finest ingredients from the region, such as the meat, which comes from Casa Baldiró, in Banyoles. König has set a high standard for German-style sandwiches and sausages; some of its best specialities are hamburgers, München-style sandwiches, patates braves (fried potatoes in spicy sauce) and four-cheese potatoes. However, it has also become famous thanks to its tapas, salads, sandwiches and combo plates. König also has a large selection of beers, both imported and local, as well as their own in-house brews.
Focaccia and English bread sandwiches, as well as salads are the main specialties in this König establishment. This local is located in Girona’s Barri Vell (old quarter), which is one of the most emblematic and ancient parts of the city, from where you can visit the old Jewish quarter, the Arab baths, Sant Fèlix’s church, the citie’s cathedral, as well as the El Cul de la Lleona (the lionesses’ ass) monument. Regarding this monument, tradition says that someone who wants to come back to Girona has to kiss this statue’s ass.
